Affirmative
action aimed to promote equal treatment of disadvantaged social groups such as
the minority. Race affirmative actions aimed to enhance access to public
schools, employment, hiring, wage pay, and promotion (Epstein & Walker
621). The proposal aligns with Cooke's song "Change is Gonna Come,"
which portrays hope that all races in America will receive equal treatment in
all sectors. The song is a true reflection of the problems we face in society.
It relates to Scott v Sandford, whose
court judgment upheld slavery in the US territories; black citizenship was
denied (Epstein & Walker 634). The US blacks are still seeking a change to
be accepted in their country as citizens. They have waited for a long for the
end of slavery, but looking at the case, it seemed to take longer than
expected.
