Terrorism causes a looming
threat to global peace and harmony while spreading fear in all societies and
communities in the affected region. There lies a threatening development in the
realm of terrorist acts- intentional attacks against innocent civilians who
have no direct participation whatsoever in conflicts or hostilities. This
calculated decision to inflict harm upon the non-participant civilians generates
complex ethical, moral, and tactical dilemmas. This essay aims to discover the
forces that drive terrorists to deliberately hurt innocent people,
investigating the integration of psychological, political, and ideological
factors in this process. Psychological, political, and ideological motivations
behind the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians by terrorists emphasize
further that a comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy not only concentrates
on enhanced safety measures but also addresses its underlying causes, such as
relative discontentment caused due to political grievances, economic inequity,
idealized radicalization, etc. should be devised.
