Literature Review
Carry out literature review pertinent to your research topic
A literature review can
be described as1: “an interpretation and synthesis of published work”. The
intention is that your literature review will form the major part of your CA1
(where appropriate) and/or final dissertation. Notes and Guidelines
• Your literature
review should be a critical summary of the literature relevant to your research
topic. It is not simply a summary of the papers you have read. You should
identify the key work in the field and outline where strengths and weaknesses
within the literature lie.
• There is no specific
format for the literature review
• The marking for this assignment is not
highly prescriptive. This is in keeping with the type of assessment that active
researchers will typically encounter when submitting papers or grants for
review.
• Your review should be ~10000 words in
length; there is not a prescribed number of required references.
Assessments will be checked for plagiarism
using Turnitin. Where there is clear evidence of plagiarised material appearing
in the submitted document, a Fail grade will be returned.
