Covid-19 is a global catastrophe that has significantly
impacted economic development and resulted in millions of deaths globally.
In “Extended interview: Bill Gates on coronavirus pandemic,” CBS This
Morning co-host Anthony Mason talks with tech entrepreneur and philanthropist
Bill Gates, where he elaborates why every one of us needs to implement strategies
to prevent the next outbreak. Ironically, the wealthiest countries in the world
have heavily invested in nuclear deterrents but invested very little in a
sustainable system that can stop an epidemic. Large outbreaks require hundreds
of thousands of frontline healthcare workers to the most affected areas. It is
essential to establish preventive measures and response systems that understand
the nature and progression of the epidemic (CBS Mornings, 2020). The thoughts
impacted me in a variety of ways. First, I was able to understand the economic
and social impacts of COVID-19 on a global scale. I understood the worldwide
magnitude and burden of the pandemic and how it affected the lives of billions
living on the planet. Secondly, I was
informed of various prevention methods that can minimize the spread of the
virus. For instance, Gates talks about social isolation to reduce the
pandemic's blueprint in families. He also adds effective prevention strategies
that the public can adopt, such as washing hands, maintaining social
distancing, and wearing masks in public places.
