A
group of Islamic terrorists hit bars, restaurants, a major stadium and a
concert hall in Paris on 13/11/2015. The attack led to approximately 130 deaths
and hundreds wounded. Although most of the consequences were direct, affecting
the local business and residents, also, the attack affected the global economy,
security, and mental health. Therefore, some of the indirect consequences of
the Paris attack in 2015 include the weakening of the global economy,
insecurity, and mental health impacts.
In the
Paris attack, terrorists focused on tourist areas such as restaurants, bars,
concert halls, and stadiums. The attack affected global mental health as the
victims were from different countries, including the British, California,
Mexico, Tunisia, Madrid, and Chile. Hence, the attack psychologically affected
people globally as they lost their loved ones (Vandentorren et al., 2018).
Also, the attack weakened the global economy as investors lost their properties
and thousands lost jobs, resulting in a reduction in consumer expenditure and
international tourism (Krieger & Meierrieks, 2019). For example, European
stocks closed, and international tourists cancelled plans. In addition, in the
aftermath, the Paris government initiated strict border control measures to
restrict illegal immigrants threatening the security of the millions of refugees
in the country (Cragin, 2017). Therefore, although the Paris economy and
residents were affected in the short run, the attack adversely affected the
global economy and security in the long run.
The
Paris attack in 2015 resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries for domestic
and foreign individuals. Although the incident highly impacted the domestic
business and residents psychologically, it also hurt the global psychology of
the affected families and investors who lost properties. In addition, strict
entry control measures affected the security of millions of refugees in the
country.
