In
the late 19th and early 20th century, different terms such as crushes, romantic
relationships, and Boston marriages were all distinct phenomena accentuating the
diverse types of intimate relationships among females. The term crush would
entail intense admiration or infatuation for another person, frequently a young
woman. According to Rouse (2020), crushing for one another would frequently
involve emotional and sometimes romantic attachments that could potentially
trigger instances of daydreaming, passionate feelings, and a desire for
physical proximity.
