Cost-Benefit Analysis Treatment Tool Assignment Prompt
A CBA allows a client to see the long and
short-term consequences of a specific action. You will start this assignment by
identifying an antisocial behavior. Ideally, this is a behavior you have done
but it can be fictitious if you can't think of anything. You will document the
consequences of the antisocial behavior. Next, you will complete a second CBA
with an alternative prosocial behavior that could be done instead. You will
document the consequences of the prosocial behavior. Remember, you are
exploring specific behavioral responses, not situations. What action was taken?
You should not state the situation that prompted the resulting behavior.
Assignment
Requirements
Use the attached worksheet to create both your prosocial and antisocial CBA. Be thorough in your exploration of the consequences for each. Review the material under Group Treatment Tools in this module to learn more about the Cost-Benefit Analysis.

Drinking
Alcohol |
||
Short-Term |
One
drinks alcohol since it influences them to celebrate, drown sorrows, and
commiserate. The use of alcohol enables one to hide or prevent one from
having negative feelings about themselves. Drinking uplifts self-esteem by
temporarily altering unprecedented moods, ultimately making one feel more
relaxed, confident, and courageous (Dowsett, & Fromm, 2020). |
The
effect of alcohol wears off quickly and can influence one to experience more
negative feelings about themselves. The negative feelings cause anger and
influence one to engage in antisocial behaviors such as fights and violence
(Dowsett, & Fromm, 2020). In numerous instances, alcohol makes one become
less sensitive and caring while dealing with people or machines. Working
under the influence of alcohol can result in injuries due to falling or
crushing other people’s cars while driving.

Long-Term
|
Alcohol
affects the brain's functionality, triggering pleasure and making one feel
more powerful and confident. Alcohol also directly alters the functioning of
the judgment area of the brain, subsequently limiting a person's inhibition
and fears (Dowsett, & Fromm, 2020). This situation influences one in
making impulsive decisions and increases the confidence to engage in things
such as flirting and singing karaoke, which one would otherwise be scared to
do while sober.
|
In
the long term, regular drinking requires attaining a particular degree of
alcohol influence to ward off depression and anxiety. This situation
influences an individual to consume more alcohol to relieve the negative
feelings, and one can subsequently become an addict (Thomson, 2019). Heavy
drinking enhances the jeopardy of contracting serious health conditions,
including high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, liver disease, and
cancer. Regular alcohol consumption influences social challenges such as
unemployment, family break-ups, financial challenges, and homelessness. |

Socializing/Making
Friends |
||
Short-Term |
Practicing
socialization, for instance, looking for a friend and sharing challenges with
them, influences how an individual feels about themselves and society. Having
more friends translates to spending more time with them, subsequently
influencing an individual’s mood and making them more optimistic (Dowsett,
& Fromm, 2020). Friends connect an individual with professionals such as
psychotherapists, who ultimately guide one on how to fight negative feelings
such as depression and anxiety.
|
While
with friends, they can influence one into engaging in different fun
activities, such as playing video games, and if one finds an interest, they
can continue playing in their free time and thereby avoid negative feelings
(Thomson, 2019). Socializing with friends is essential since they influence
one to perceive life from different perspectives, from which they can solve
current life challenges, subsequently enabling one to execute replicating
problem-solving strategies in the future. Friends help one to challenge
self-doubts and have positive thoughts about themselves. |
Long-Term |
Socialization
can result in negative peer pressure. Friends influence each other’s way of
life, for instance, by using illegal drugs such as bhang (Dowsett, &
Fromm, 2020). While enjoying social activities such as gaming, friends can
influence one into gambling and crime.
|
While
engaging in varied activities that bring fun, one can be influenced to use
drugs, and suppose these activities involve the use of alcohol or drugs,
frequently using them results in addiction (Thomson, 2019). Negative peer
pressure is frequently associated with an influence of bullying and drinking
alcohol. The aftermaths of such social behaviors decrease one’s self-image
confidence, which can lead to antisocial behaviors such as distancing from
friends and family members. |
