Context
In this unit, you have continued to investigate representations and the way they are constructed within texts to suit specific contexts and purposes. You have examined popular culture texts and the varying ways that icons have been represented throughout history.The Ipswich City Council Library is impressed by your expertise and knowledge in popular culture texts, and has approached you to construct and present a multimodal presentation for an upcoming series entitled ‘Changing Icons’.
Task;Construct and present a multimodal presentation that provides a commentary explaining, in detail, the representation of a popular culture icon with reference to a popular culture text/s.Your commentary must explain how historically relevant attitudes, values, beliefs, and cultural assumptions evident in the text/s have informed, shaped, and underpinned how your chosen popular culture icon has been represented. Your commentary will also include how language features, and text structures have positioned the audience of the text to view your chosen popular culture icon.

Checkpoints
Week 1: Consultation with
teacher on topic choice and preparation of multimodal presentation.
Week 2: Submit all elements of
draft to teacher for feedback, in the same mode as the final multimodal
presentation.
Week 3: Finalise and prepare for
submission of multimodal presentation.

Scaffolding
To complete this task you must:
Identify a popular culture icon;
Select a text (film, comic strip,
song etc) that showcases your popular culture icon;
Research how your chosen popular culture icon has been represented throughout history, and at the time of the text’s construction;
Identify, and explain the attitudes, values, beliefs, and cultural assumptions that have shaped the representation of your popular culture icon (Essentially answering the question: why is your pop culture icon the way they are?);
Identify, and explain how
language features and text structures have helped shape the representation of
your chosen popular culture icon in the chosen text;
Explain how the audience of
the text is invite to view, or take up positions, about your chosen popular
culture icon;
Use vocabulary appropriate to your
icon, text, and audience;
Use spoken and non-spoken features
(eg eye contact, stance, gestures etc);
Ensure that your multimodal
presentation includes a combination of at least two modes; one of which must be
spoken;
Practise and rehearse your
presentation;
Record, or present your
presentation to a live audience.
