Eddie Koiki Mabo is a
remarkable figure in Australian history who played an essential role in
advocating for the rights of Indigenous individuals and remodeling the laws of
land ownership in Australia.

history. Eddie Mabo was birthed on June 29th, 1936, to Robert Zesou Sambo and
Poipe (Sambo) Mabo as the fourth child (AIATSIS, 2022). He was birthed in a
village known as Las on the island of Mer in the Torres Strait. Mabos' early
life was shaped by his indigenous background, where he was deeply connected to
the people and land. Mabolived a profound life as he fought against the
indigenous community's challenges regarding unjust land ownership.
