Homeland Security and Homeland Defense

The mission for Homeland defense (HLD) is to provide life-saving capabilities during national emergency due to natural and human made disasters. HLD play a prominent role in the security of the country by protecting terrorist attacks from potential terror threats (Bullock & Coppola, 2018). The HLD also responds to various emergencies in the country caused by both natural and manmade factors. It protects the country`s borders against attack from external forces. It also conducts security operations in neighboring countries and other areas of security interest. The HDL operations are mostly on the border and outside the country to mitigate attacks that might affect the state of nation in terms of peace and economic status. The HLD also operates within the country during emergencies that might affect he country`s stability.

Homeland Security is a department responsible to maintain security stability in the country. The mission for (HLS) is to secure the country from many threats that we face (Homeland Security, 2022). The HLS is responsible for border, maritime, cyber, port and aviation security, port, cyber security, and counterterrorism. It is also tasked for the protection of national leaders, critical infrastructure and detection of criminals. The department is also responsible for election security, custom and immigration enforcement. Moreover, it protects the country from nuclear and biological threats. It operates in the country especially in the critical areas which demand high security alert. The department maintains law and order hence play critical roles for the stability of the country.

Shared Areas

Both HLD and HLS have crucial similarities in areas they share interests. The two are responsible to prevent the country from terrorist attacks both from internal and external. They have interest on the security at the border hence protect the country from illegal migrants. They are also very active during emergencies in the country to rescue and prevent further losses. Therefore, that two broad-based initiatives are basically concerned with protection of the country`s infrastructure and the citizens.

Definition for Homeland Security

The definition of HLS that I would recommend is the department of maintaining internal affairs from attacks and enhancing security stability in the country. HLS would be a department specifically for dealing with security issues inside the country including at the border points. The department would have various branches to deal with specific threats like; cyber security, customs, leader protection among others.

Addressing Threats

The crucial thing in addressing the threat is information. The relevant government agencies should collect validates and culls information necessary for the mitigation measures. Understanding the role of technology in exacerbating the threat is also important. The department should also use the technology to confront the threat at hand. The department requires the intervention of the judiciary to prosecute the already arrested offenders to punish them for the crimes.
