Question

This is an example that was given to use as a Tool for Own Piece

I‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍ have written from a section in a movie called Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. I have ‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍written it in third person and would like you to convert it to monologue (first person‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍)Roo

GAP:

Reacting:

-      I was feeling happy after a night of New Year celebrations with everyone and patching things up with Johnny after we fought at Lunar Park.

-       It wasn’t long after that my happiness soon turned sour when I found out Barney had been making deals with Johnny behind my back.

-      Barney and I get into a terrible physical fight in front of everyone smashing one of Olives dolls which breaks Olives heart.

-      I feel betrayed by Barney and cannot believe he has done this to me after all these years

Processing; All of this is disastrous. After Johnny and Roo patched things up with each other during New Year celebrations not long after it was revealed to Roo there was a story behind all of this. Roo discovered little clues after talking with Bubba (Kathy), which lead him to why Johnny patch things up with him. Barney knew Roo really disliked Johnny for taking charge over him cane cutting in Cairns.  Barney had been trying to get Johnny and Roo to patch things up after their fight since their return to Sydney. Barney thought he would help Johnny to date Kathy if he would patch it up with Roo.  Barney had introduced Johnny to Kathy at the pub weeks before this without Roo knowing.  When Roo found this out he was furious - Kathy is like a daughter to him. Why didn’t Barney mention this before? Barney thought he got away with it, but like all things the truth always comes out. Roo found out that Barney convinced Johnny to stand down as man in charge on the cane cutting farm, and give it back to Roo.  He knew this would help Johnny’s relationship with Kathy, a bit of a win win situation for Barney.  Roo believed Barney was trying to sweeten things up to keep his job cane cutting. All of this was a mess to which a big physical fight broke out in front of the girls. They threw themselves around the living room smashing things around until one of Olives dolls was smashed onto the floor, at this point the fight stopped with Olive crying hysterically on the floor………..

Reflecting:

-          Roo is a stubborn man his ego got in the way of patching it up with Johnny at the beginning.  Roo tends to hold onto his anger until he reaches a point where he explodes.

-          Roo couldn’t believe that Barney had been sneaking around behind his back, I don’t blame Roo for being angry.

-          But at the same time he felt that Johnny was less experienced than him and should have had more respect for Roo.

-          Barney went the wrong way about this only thinking of himself and not others. He is supposed to be one of Roo’s good friends and true friends don’t do that.

-          I think Barney got too caught up with trying to get Johnny and Roo to patch things up that he lost sight of everything.  He just kept digging big holes for himself.

Moving forward

To think that grown men behave like this is ridiculous.  What happened to these men they lost sight of how to behave in a civilised way.  All of this could have been avoided from all parties.  I can’t believe that this nonsense has carried on as long as it has. Roo was holding on to this anger for some time which affected his relationship with Barney and his love Olive.  I think Barney was trying to make everybody happy to his own benefit, without thinking of who he was hurting along the way.  Barney got caught up in the drama of it all.  I wonder if Barney had of just let things takes its natural course then maybe Johnny and Roo may of patched things up under different circumstances without Barney getting involved.  Barney should of stayed out of it and just stood by Roo.  All Roo wanted was respect from Johnny.  On the flip side Roo could of let his guard down and met up with Johnny to talk about what happened up at Cairns man to man over a beer at the pub.

Expert Solution

Johnny Dowd

GAP: Johnny has just left the house after visiting to make nice with Roo.

Reacting:Johnny is feeling pretty good about how things went with Bubba (Kathy).Johnny feels uneasy about shaking hands with Roo; he doesn’t think things will get better, even though Roo said it was okay.Johnny thinks that Barney has handled everything in a really poor way.Well that was a complete mess! Doesn’t seem like Barney knew what he was talking about when he said Roo would be okay with me stopping by. The way he spun it made it sound like Roo was good to make peace with everything that happened up the cane fields. Bloody Barney. Rocks in his head that one. And the way he went about that business with Pearl… I’m surprised she didn’t slap him. Kathy though, probably the only good thing to come from this little visit. Still, I can’t help but feel as though Roo still isn’t good with me.
