Question

Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions

Instructions

By referencing (use APA citations) from the internet, textbook, or research article, post one chemical reaction that is considered an exothermic reaction and another one that is considered as an endothermic reaction.

In your post, please address the following topics:

• State why you chose these 2 reactions (1 exothermic and 1 endothermic).

.Add the applications of the 2 reactions you chose.

Requirements

• Complete your initial post by the due date.

• Read the posts from 2 of your fellow students and add more information to the application of the reaction.

Feel free to post a gif or a vimeo video or a link to a YouTube video and feel free to include a podcast link if you wish to explain the importance of the molecule

Expert Solution

Exothermic Reaction: Methane combustion

CH4(g) + 2O2(g) CO2(g) + 2H2O(g) + Heat

Endothermic Reaction: Photosynthesis

6CO2(g) + 6H2O(l) + light energy → C6H12O6(aq) + 6O2(g)

I chose Methane combustion since it is a classic illustration of an exothermic process. It commonly generates energy and releases it as heat for heating, cooking, and energy generation. The reaction shows the energy conservation law because the energy produced during it is transferred to the environment as heat. The essential endothermic reaction of photosynthesis keeps life on Earth going. It exemplifies how light energy influences chemical reactions. It also shows how energy may change from one form, like light, to another, like the molecular energy in glucose. The process must be endothermic to synthesize complex organic compounds from simpler inorganic materials.
