O‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍verview This is a “take-home” assignment during Week 8. No classes are held during this week. There is no ACA or Meeting Prep Comment due this week. It is expected that you use the class time to complete your Midterm Story assignment independently and upload by the due date. Story Prompt CommBuzz.com, a (fictional) online magazine for news, entertainment, and culture is tasking you with a pandemic personal piece that is due to publish in three days! They want to commission a story from you about your pandemic experience, but it must be a story that reflects on your life during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Think of a specific experience you went through and tell readers what happened, as well as why this is a notable or representative story of the pandemic. You can consider life in quarantine, working during the pandemic, healthcare experience, being infected with COVID-19, artand literature, #BlackLivesMatter and protests during the pandemic, mutual aid, school during quarantine, family, trauma and mourning, caring for others, and so on, as long as it is relevant to the pandemic. The purpose of this story is to document our COVID-19 experiences using digital storytelling tools so that we can move forward, process our trauma, learn from our experience, find joy in life, connect with others, address emotions, and/or advocate‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍ for change. What is your pandemic story and what should readers take away from it? Here is what they want in the story: 500-word minimum personal pandemic story from your own experience. Use first-person. Must relate back to the pandemic and how we can reflect on the pandemic experience with your story. Must demonstrate a purpose of the story for the readers (see above “purpose of this story” for examples). Minimum three visuals (gifs, memes, photos, sketches, short video [TikTok length]) integrated into your story. They do not have to be original (made by you) but you need to cite where you copied the visuals using APA citation for online sources. Reference List at the end of your story for any sources you use.
