Expert Solution

Orientalism is a form of western art that emerged in the 18th century during Bonaparte's campaign against the ottoman empire. This period was characterized by the church's influence on several nations, and the Ottoman Empire posed a threat to this influence because of its Muslim heritage. In addition, art during this period was influenced by the stories in the bible, for example, the painting showing St. Michael triumphing over the dragon by Jerome Weirex, which emphasized the message of divine protection that had characterized this era (Ewbank). Colonialization in the 19th century changed oriental art into colonial art, which expanded art to include paintings of indigenous communities, furniture and portraits.
