Wadsworth Jarrell was part of the Africobra movement that
utilized art to highlight societal issues. This piece shows the extensive use
of typography, a primary artistic style of radical movements during this
period. The medium of this piece is an acrylic and mixed media canvas. The strength
of collective mobilization is exemplified in this piece’s amalgamation of
diverse hues, which converge to form a cohesive representation of Angela Davis,
a prominent figure in radical activism and intellectual discourse. This piece
is also endowed with various words associated with identity and societal
issues. For instance, next to Angela's mouth on the left side of the painting
are the words "Black Beautiful" written in bold, which showcase the
acknowledgment of identity. Generally, this art piece is a contribution to the
radical mobilization of African American during the 20th century.
