1. See the
attached file and read the text regarding visual analysis. We will work with
this tool throughout the entire semester. You need to read the text (read the
part for the instructors as it is more detailed or read both.)
2.Create a list of
aspects of an art work that you will need to investigate if
you are going to analyze a work of art. You simply extract this from the text.
Write these down.
3. Choose a painting ideally a post Renaissance one (go on line if you cannot think of any and you will find many on any art museum website) and try to provide visual analysis.
Visual analysis of an artwork involves observing, analyzing, and
interpreting. This would aid in understanding the painting better. Various
aspects are essential during the visual analysis, including the style, color,
line, texture, space, composition, and scale of the artwork. Style of an artwork
refers to if the painting appears as seen in real life or the painting it is
styled. Artwork can have several colors of different shades, or it may contain
only one color. In terms of the line, the artist may choose to have smooth
curves, or they may also be angular. The texture of a painting refers to the
ultimate feel of the painting. This may depend on the types of paint used.
Painting spacing refers to if the painting is tight or sufficient space has
been provided for the elements in the painting. Composition refers to how the
elements in the artwork are arranged and if they seem balanced. Finally, the
scale refers to whether the artwork is smaller or larger, small or large, and
how this impacts how people view the artwork
