For this discussion, we
are going to examine theatrical design .
Directions:
In your peer responses,
use the ABC approach:
Acknowledge the
peer you're responding to and something s/he said,
Build on it by
adding experiences and/or references related to the topic, and
Conclude with a
question or statement for further discussion.
Analyze the following
set designs for Shakespeare's, Romeo and Juliet:
1. Compare and contrast
the two set designs. Which do you like more and why?
2. Which set do you
think is more effective for telling the story? How do they tell the story
differently?
3. How do different designers' responsibilities and processes differ?
The second
set design is much more appealing to me because it more closely resembles a
traditional Renaissance-style Verona with lavish details and grand
architecture. It is also much more realistic. Additionally, the people,
lighting, and accessories employed give it a more authentic feel and make it
simpler to picture the tale's setting (Spanjaard, Garlin, & Mohammed, 2023).To explain the story,
the second design has a more realistic appearance and would work better to
explain the story. This is because the conventional Renaissance-style set can
take the audience to the play's particular time and location, giving it a realistic
feel and providing historical context (Wu
& Chen, 2020).
