As a theatre student, it is important to be able to identify various theatrical elements in a production. Artistic and technical elements synthesize to tell a cohesive story. In this prescriptive critique, you may discuss the performance aspects or design aspects. In addition, you will identify at least one element that you think can be improved or changed for the better. This is called, making a prescription. You will identify the perceived "problem" and describe how you would "fix" it. The prescriptive critique should be a minimum of 2 pages in essay format. A standard 5-paragraph structure is a perfect guideline (introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion). And remember, the critique is Your opinion. Do not cut and paste plot summaries from existing reviews or critiques.
The theatrical performance involves the planning,
trial performance, and the actual performance of the artwork. With theatrical
performances, certain elements represent it: performer, time, place, and
audience. These elements aid in the presentation of the performance
effectively. Theatrical performances often take place in enclosed spaces to
bring out some of the sensory experiences and enable the presentation's flow.
Moreover, through the sharing of the
space between the audience and the effective performer outcome of the
presentation will be displayed; hence flow and consistency of the theatrical
performance are achieved.
