The Social
Ecological Model (SEM) is not a theory; however, it is a perspective that
allows public health professionals to recognize the dynamic interplay between
many levels of influence that affect health behavior: intrapersonal,
interpersonal, institutional, community, and societal. For this week's discussion,
select a health behavior and explain how factors/influences at each SEM level
might influence the likelihood or frequency of the behavior. Then, discuss
which levels of influence you would address if you were creating a public
health program to increase or decrease the frequency of the behavior.
