This
is a reading reflection assignment. 300-400 words. Please try to get a sense of
Harris' central argument about property and whiteness. Also,
consider her discussion about affirmative action at the end of the essay.
Please make specific references to the readings.
Foundational American cultures
and policies based on racism are still present today following the country’s
history. For example, although racism has been greatly diminished, legal
policies and cultures on properties still favor White Americans over other
races, such as Black and Native Americans. In her book, Whiteness as Property, Cheryl Harris describes the strong
relationship between property and race while describing American legal
provisions throughout history that make whiteness a form of property. Therefore,
it is critical to identify and determine Harris' major arguments and the
affirmative actions she gives to solve the contemporary and persistent problem.
