The NASW code of ethics shares
various principles and values with progressive political ideology. Therefore,
exploring how this progressive ideology adheres to this code of ethics will
highlight the benefits of social workers upholding this ideology.Social justice
is one of the values this ideology and the code of ethics share. This value
stipulates that social workers are mandated to foster social change on behalf
of or in collaboration with vulnerable and minority groups (NASW, n.d.).
Progressive ideology also fosters similar principles by advocating for reforms
that aim to mitigate social inequalities and provide equal opportunities to
all. Additionally, this value prompts social workers to engage in activities that
foster sensitivity and acknowledgment of diversity and oppression in society (NASW,
n.d.), an aim they share with the political reforms aligned with the
progressive ideology. Generally, the principles of progressive ideology align
with the social justice value of this code of ethics.
