"The ones who walk away
from Omelas" fiction describes how Omelas, a city in Utopia, is productive
and successful at the expense of the joy and freedom of a six-year-old child.
The city has no enslaved people, leaders, priests, or military. Most citizens
notice the injustice in keeping the child in misery to secure the city's
happiness, but nothing they can do to rescue the child (Le Guin, 2017). Perhaps, some who cannot
withstand such immorality and injustice walk away to unknown destinations. I
think the story gives a perfect view of the discrimination of the minority
groups keeping them in poor living conditions to secure the happiness of the
majority and powerful.
