most plausible explanation for the disappearance of the Roanoke colony of 1587?
Your answers should be based on the documents and historical
information presented and not exhibit pure, unreasonable speculation
The most logical explanation
for the disappearance of the Roanoke colony in 1587 sounds like something out
of a fantasy film or program. Several individuals go off on a journey to
discover a new country. They land on a remote island and begin building a
community. When their commander returns several years later, he discovers that
the individuals he had left behind had gone. A party of 117 Englishmen, women,
and children landed in 1587 to start a colony on Roanoke Island (Fullam, 2021).
This was the third attempt to establish a settlement in the New World. When
they arrived to the abandoned hamlet, they immediately went about rebuilding
it. The Powhatan tribe on Croatoan Island, nearby, also started to rebuild the
relationship with the colonists.
