The literature of
"sonny's blues" by James Baldwin is a good and must-read piece. It is
characterized by real-life scenarios that are easy to relate to, especially for
people living in areas where racism and substance abuse are common. This story
focuses on the challenges black people face in the western developed world. The
struggles, fear, hardwork, and above all, the hope that they have for a better
tomorrow. Amidst all the challenges that they face, the story brings out some
of the aspects and activities they try to bury themselves in, in an attempt to
escape from their afflictions. Some of these activities are positive, yet
others are negative, and they end up destroying people's lives and shuttering
their hopes. The various characters have their different opinion and stand
concerning the issue of religion. Life in the neighborhoods is portrayed as
filled with fear, regrets, ambition, and hope.
