The
central character in "A Hunger Artist" is a professional fasting
musician starving himself to amuse the general public. The flaw of this man's
character comes from his obsessive nature in pursuit of perfecting his
artworks, at the cost of his mental and physical well-being. His insatiable
longing for the public to recognize and validate him triggers his obsession,
which subsequently results in self-neglect. The artist is not aware that his
obsession makes him a slave to his profession, and he is ultimately
misunderstood and isolated by the world which finds it hard to appreciate the

Kafka executes influential imagery to convey the extent to which the artist
