The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a story about a lady's slump into insanity. The tale is narrated with the aid of a girl who is ailing from postpartum depression and is constrained to a chamber in her home by her partner, John, who is her doctor (Gilman, 647). As she spends more time in the room, she becomes enthusiastic about the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls. She believes there may be a female trapped in the back of the wallpaper and becomes increasing number of fixated on setting her free. Her mental state deteriorates as she spirals into delusion and hysteria, in the end leading to a surprising and tragic conclusion.
