General
Discussion.
1. Are the situations seen in
this film realistic? Are they typical of situations you are familiar with from
your own work? In what ways are they similar or different? 2. Are the ethical
problems faced by nurses the same as or different from those faced by other
professionals such as doctors, social workers, lawyers, teachers? In what ways?
3. Do you feel that the
general public are aware of then kinds of issues nurses have to deal with? In
what ways are they supportive or not supportive of nurses? 4. Do you think
physicians are aware of these issues? In what ways are they supportive or not
supportive?
5Would you agree that there
has been an increased concern with ethical dilemmas in nursing in recent years?
If so, why do you think this is?
6. Do you feel the nursing
hierarchy in your institution are supportive of staff in dealing with these
issues? In what ways? What about the nurses’ union, if there is one? What about
your professional organizations?

The cases in the film are
familiar with the issues that nurses face. In a facility, nurses are often
faced with limited resources and more patients to tend to (Press, 2021). In
situations where more patients require intensive care and limited resources, we
are faced with choosing who gets the care before the other. I am often faced
with a dilemma when a specific treatment to a patient is aggressive yet is the decision
made by the family. According to nursing ethics, nurses should tend to
patients' needs with compassion. Yet, most times, we are pushed to make a
different decision to honor the family's wishes, mostly when survival is
minimal (Press, 2021). There are no significant differences in the cases in the
field since the situations are all realistic. Hence nursing dilemmas are
significant and common in most healthcare systems.
