1. How did this ethnography
differ from previous class readings? How was it similar to previous readings?Although
Treuer's ethnography differs from previous class readings, it shares some
similarities with the readings. For instance, Treuer (2012) highlights that the
US government's introduction of compulsory boarding schools for Indians aimed
to eradicate the familial ties that hindered the civilization of Indians. This
concept of the government's disregard for cultural ties is highlighted in the
previous readings. It is also similar to previous readings as it accounts for
how the communities tried to protect their rights. Treuer (2012) highlights the
strife of this community to protect their rights through collaboration with the
government. However, this ethnography differs from class readings due to its
scope. Generally, this account has various similarities and differences with
the previous readings.
