Nutrition and Dietetics - Timeline Assignment Purpose:
1.Identify and describe
important events in the role of government and non-government organizations in
public health and nutrition Procedure: WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program
2. Identify ten specific,
significant discoveries/events within the chosen topic. Determine the dates of
each event and place them in chronological order on your timeline.
3. Research each event using online and
academic journals. Web of Science and Google Scholar available through ASU
libraries are good sources.
4. Develop a graphic
illustrating each event on the timeline. Identify the event and explain the
historical significance of the event including dates and persons involved in

The United States Department of Agriculture here in USDA in 1977 adopted nutritional based system to administer food packages through systems such as a home delivery system, to children with special diet needs. In 1978, the child nutrition act was amended to include laws that promoted individuals getting educated on nutrition, (Bartholomew et.al.,2017). In 1981, based on an individual’s income, the eligibility to qualify for the program was lowered to 185% below the stated federal poverty level. In 1988, the hunger prevention act allowed several states to have famer education programs. The children act and re-authorization act of 1989 permitted government agencies to negotiate for fair prices to purchase infant formula and necessitated the USDA promote the breast feeding of infants.
