The views on Native American people are evolving. Therefore, Mann’s ideas on the evolving Native Indian’s historical perception and connection to Arden's critique highlight issues associated with the view of indigenous communities.According to Mann, some scholars have developed a new conflicting perception of the culture of this community. These scholars challenge the conventional notions of what the Western Hemisphere was like before Columbus, which argued that these people existed in small and scattered groups having insufficient impact on the environment (Mann). Hence, this new view prompts a new perspective highlighting this community's historical significance. The new perspective argues that these people existed in large numbers in the area for a longer period than what is believed and had a significant impact on the environment before Columbus' discovery (Ardren). Generally, Mann argues that there is a shift in this community's historical perception that highlights their significance.
