Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model (Dearholt & Dang,
2012). Apply the above model to mental health disorders Explain how the problem
could be improved using the EBP model. Take the reader through each step of the
application. Explain the Doctor of Practice role in each step of the model. Use
at least two current peer-reviewed articles that provide evidence on how to
improve the problem. This Paper should be between 300 to 400 words. Thank you
Evidence-based practice(EBP)
plays a critical role in making informed decisions regarding patient- care as nurses’
review, analyze and integrate the scientific evidence into practice. For
instance, doctors of nursing practice (DNP) face various challenges that could
be addressed through the evidence-based practice(EBP) model in dealing with
mental health issues. For example, some problems include predicting the
patient's behavior and exposure to aggression and violence. However, the
psychiatric nurses' challenges could be addressed through the Johns Hopkins
Nursing Evidence-based practice (JHNEBP) model by obtaining first-hand
information from bedside nurses, finding evidence, and implementing it to
mitigate the challenges.
JHNEBP model involves three
basic steps, including formulating a practice question, collecting internal and
external evidence, and translating the acquired evidence into practice to
improve care. For instance, in the case of mental health disorders, the DNP
could improve patient care by utilizing the steps in the JHNEBP model. The
first step involves the development of a practice question. This involves
establishing an inter-professional team, mainly the front-line staff, to define
the psychiatric issues and the main stakeholders (Dang & Dearholt, 2018).
Secondly, the DNP should find evidence of the Nursing challenges in dealing
with mental health disorders. This could involve both external and internal
searches to establish all the possible clinical problems and the possible
solutions to enhance practice. In addition, the evidence should illustrate
mental health patient behavior and areas that need improvement (Dang &
Dearholt, 2018). Finally, the DNP should consider the quality of the collected evidence
and offer recommendations for improvement. Upon approval of the evidence
collected, the DPN should establish a strategy for incorporating the
recommendations into nursing practice to prevent cases of patient aggression,
violence, and unpredictable behavior (Joubert & Bhagwan, 2018). The DNP
should also monitor and evaluate the outcomes to determine their effectiveness.
Therefore, the DNP in psychiatric care could address the major issues with
mental health disorders by utilizing the JHNEBP model to improve practice and
determine the causes of poor health outcomes and possible recommendations for
improvement.
JHNEBP model involves
obtaining first-hand information from bedside nurses, finding evidence, and
implementing it to mitigate the challenges. For instance, the DNP could use
evidence-based practice to address problems such as aggression, violence, and
unpredictable behavior in dealing with mental health disorders. Therefore, most
nursing challenges could be mitigated using an evidence-based practice model.
