Review:
Read the Chapter 9 (Week 5) readings in Johnson (2016) ANALYSIS: Address the
following questions:
-Can there be toxic leadership
without toxic followership? Why or why not?
-Why is it important for followers to be
authentic?
-How do you decide when it is time to exit an
organization/to have the courage to leave? Support your answer.
Toxic
leadership can exist without toxic followers, albeit this is a far rarer
phenomenon. A toxic follower is willing to be exploited and abused by a leader.
In contrast, poisonous leaders use their power position to control and manipulate
their followers. Toxic leaders and toxic followers both contribute to a toxic
environment. A leader can be toxic even if they do not have followers, but it
will be far more difficult for them to do so if they do not have any followers
who are prepared to be mistreated.
