There has been a dramatic increase in the number of people imprisoned in the
United States over the last 20 years, and a trend toward building supermax
prisons. Discuss at least three ethical concerns that may explain the increase
in the crime rate and the idea of building supermax prisons.
Page 2 - Which is the better
approach—to treat terrorism as a criminal activity or to fight terrorists as if
they were enemies in a war? Explain. And, What measures should a
democratic government take to respond to terrorism that are consistent with its
ethical responsibilities?
1.For numerous reasons,
prison and jail populations have increased exponentially in the past twenty
years. Changes in federal and state sentencing policies are deemed related by
some individuals. In those years when America fought against drugs, its
society's actions were reflected. Nonetheless, multiple ethical concerns may
clarify the increase in crime rate (Ariel & Bland, 2019). Supermax prison
construction is an idea. An increase in ethical failures during decision-making
can be seen as an example. Morally deficient decision-making is seen as the
reason for crime from an ethical perspective. Failing to comprehend the
wrongful impact of an action on a victim can lead to criminal behavior (Western
et al., 2021). The ethical explanation of crime acknowledges that external
factors contribute to the criminal behavior of certain individuals. Still,
these factors don't exclusively lead to this conduct. The view of ethics also
acknowledges that criminal conduct stems from a decision made using free will.
The classical approach's assertion that the risk of apprehension controls the
inherent tendency to engage in crime is contradicted (Ariel & Bland, 2019).
One's decision-making is guided by ethical principles being present or absent,
not by other factors.
