Discussion
Board: Chapters 13, 14, 15 A management consultant said strategic leaders are
concerned with vision and mission, while strategic managers are concerned with
strategy. Do you agree? Discuss. Some people believe that
all good leadership is spiritual in nature. Others think spiritual values have
no place at work. Discuss these two opposing viewpoints, and share your opinion.
I agree that strategic leaders
are concerned with organizational vision and mission while strategic managers
are concerned with strategy. Leadership and management can be differentiated by
the roles of individuals in an organization and their commitment to achieving
the goals. Strategic leaders are charged with setting the long-term goals that
an organization should achieve. They consider the future, the goods, and
services that can be provided to determine future organizational relevance.
However, strategic managers consider these goals, the mission, and
organizational vision and make plans of execution by setting up systems that
properly run to ensure optimal results (Hunitie, 2018). Therefore, an organization would need strategic
leaders and managers, given the diversity of roles they exhibit and their
varying levels of commitment.
People have varying views on the place of spirituality in leadership. For some, leadership is a place to exercise spiritual values such as hope, faith, and love. A leader should have these values grounded within them, based on their spirituality, to express them within their domain of influence (Wang et al., 2019). On the other hand, some argue that spirituality has no place in the workplace since values such as humanity, honesty, diligence, courtesy, and brilliance don't need to be exercised in spiritual settings to manifest while relating to work and the workplace. If followed, common human decency, attention to ethics, and clear guidelines issued by organizational leaders could result in diligence in the workplace, which doesn't result from spiritual upbringing or inclinations. I believe that spirituality has a place in leadership, although not necessary. In my opinion, spirituality presents a vision that is bigger than us. It helps us put others first and has a place in society to ensure that love is dominant in determining how we relate to others. If people exercised virtues taught in spiritual settings, relations in the workplace would be improved, and the general work output with it.
