1.What type of professional relationship with physicians is currently mandated by the NY State law for nurse practitioners?

According to the New York State Nursing Board Office, the major focuses on the medical and legal methods of healthcare professionals and nurse practitioners (NYSED, 2019). A nurse practitioner (NP), as per New York State Education Law, assesses ailments and physical problems and conducts therapeutic and remedial procedures within a specific field of practice. This statute mandates the NP to work with a physician authorized to cooperate in the NP's specialty scope of expertise and to follow a formal practice partnership and documented practice procedures. The New York State Education Law does not require a physician to oversee a nursing specialist or to co-sign any of the NP's instructions, documents, or charts (NYSED, 2019). According to New York law, NPs are solely accountable for the patient's evaluation and treatment. Any nursing activity that an NP is not individually qualified to do is not permitted by law to be performed. Nursing professionals are expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards in their interactions with patients and with other health care providers (NYSED, 2019). They should be regarded as specialists who have devoted themselves to the ideals and standards of healthcare by patients, society, and co-workers, even when they perform tasks that do not directly entail delivering treatment for patients in a healthcare context.

2.How is this relationship established and maintained‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍?

This kind of cooperation is also present when the Health Department licenses a clinic, care home, or diagnostic and therapeutic facility. For instance, the nurse practitioner may speak with a doctor who has credentials at the healthcare institution and is competent to cooperate in the relevant specialty to exchange information to offer complete treatment or to make referrals as needed (NYSED, 2019). Furthermore, the Nurse Practitioners Modernization Legislation stipulates all nurse practitioners to continue practicing in conformance with authored practice guidelines and a written practice contract with a collaborating physician, except if the nurse practitioner practices and has cooperative partnerships as permitted by the Nurse Practitioners Legislation (NYSED, 2019). According to this legislation, a nurse practitioner who has more than 150 days of experience working as an eligible nurse practitioner may choose to continue practicing under written practice guidelines and an authored practice contract with a collaborating physician or work in collaboration with one or more licensed medical facilities or qualified doctors (NYSED, 2019). Therefore, through various guidelines and approaches, relationships beyween medical entities can be created and maintained.
