Purpose:Identify and describe important events in the role of government and non-government organizations in public health and nutrition
Procedure:
1.Choose a government and nutrition history topic. Examples may include:

WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

1.These are examples only and you are free to choose other topics within the broad concept of government and non-government influence on nutrition and dietetics.
2.Identify ten specific, significant discoveries/events within the chosen topic. Determine the dates of each event and place them in chronological order on your timeline.
3.Research each event using online and academic journals. Web of Science and Google Scholar available through ASU libraries are good sources.
4.Develop a graphic illustrating each event on the timeline. Identify the event and explain the historical significance of the event including dates and persons involved in the event. Please refer to the examples in Canvas.
5.Photographs and images that are representative of the events should be added to the graphic. Feel free to be innovative regarding the method of presentation of the information, however, the assignment must be in a format which can be uploaded to Canvas.
6.On a separate page, discuss the rationale for selecting the specific events on the timeline. The rationale should consist of one paragraph per event.
7.Cite all references using APA citation style with all website and journal references used. There must be at least three different academic references used, you may use Wikipedia or another online encyclopedia to access basic background information, however, all information obtained from these sites must be verified by another source. Include the online encyclopedia in your bibliography but it will not be counted toward the three references.

Significant discoveries within
the WIC Nutrition program.
The United States Department of Agriculture here in USDA in 1977 adopted
nutritional based system to administer food packages through systems such as a
home delivery system, to children with special diet needs. In 1978, the child
nutrition act was amended to include laws that promoted individuals getting
educated on nutrition, (Bartholomew et.al.,2017). In 1981, based on an
individual’s income, the eligibility to qualify for the program was lowered to
185% below the stated federal poverty level. In 1988, the hunger prevention act
allowed several states to have famer education programs. The children act and re-authorization act of
1989 permitted government agencies to negotiate for fair prices to purchase
infant formula and necessitated the USDA promote the breast feeding of infants.
