I am from Kentucky and have been residing in Virginia for over 30 years. A fun fact about myself is that I am a huge sports junkie!

Part 1: You must be very determined to be a socially responsible leader. “A true leader must cultivate his or her capability and self-assurance to assist employees build confidence and enthusiasm” (Weiss, 2004, p.10). As a leader, we must be proactive and decisive on key decision making when incorporating change. Speaking of the change, globalization has affected the world tremendously over the years due to the health crisis such as COVID and difficult trade wars. Our city and regions have suffered drastically as our student education adjusted to the new phase of virtual learning and end user devices has staggered due to less microprocessor’s productions available for our everyday technology needs. With globalizations, we depended on end user mobile devices being shipped to the US which affected the abilities for students to learn once COVID cases started to rise. There was a need for technical driven lessons, and I can admit I was impacted as well. Growing up, I went to a well diverse school surrounded by friends that had different beliefs, ethnicities and were all over the globe since Hampton Roads is a huge military area. In addition, my family and my progression has driven me to understand different cultures in life by expanding my knowledge relating to specific environments.

Part 2: Specific traits to be an effective leader is confidence and being responsible which should be driven by accountability. Personal failure or lessoned learned I had in the past is when I tried installing a new smoker that I purchased. I was able to install the smoker with no issues and once I tried to power it on it didn’t power on. I disassembled the entire smoker to make sure I didn’t miss anything and reassembled. Still no solution, so I decided to read the schematics. There was a power safety switch that I missed to resolve the issue. My strengths are versatility and being optimistic about any task I can complete. I believe my weakness is not asking for help when I think I have hit a stoppage that I need to overcome. I am very open minded about life in general and the way I challenge myself to be a better individual.

Part 3: A change I would like to see in the community is less gun violence. My sphere of influence is my wife who helps from day to day to make our family well rounded with no setbacks. The areas I focus on to make something better is to continue to influence my ch‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍ildren and instill positivity in their young minds to be a better person every day. I can utilize and have utilize my sphere of influence to mentor the youth and teenagers as well to have a positive mindset and focus on doing the right things to make sure the individual has a better life. Part 4: My areas of strength are modeling the way, Areas that I need to develop in my life are encouraging the heart. 2. Introduction: My name is Justin Leach, and I am a senior at Old Dominion University. I am currently majoring in Communications and minoring in Management. I was born and raised in Charlottesville VA then moved to Norfolk in high school. I attended ODU’s campus for a few years. I enjoy brewing beer, playing golf, and spending time with my family. Also, I played rugby for ODU for two seasons. I work full time as a sales professional for an industrial supplies company. I am most likely the old man in the class but look forward to learning from everyone.

Part 1: There are many aspects to being a great leader and inspiring employees. Being a socially responsible leaders is vital to the role. One key aspect to leading is culture, as stated, “Each of these group dynamics plays an important role in shaping the global leadership with a strong impact on organizational culture and climate” (Chuang, 2014, p. 4). I believe being able to set the tone as a leader of employees or an organization implies you are socially responsible. My upbringing has been affected by globalization in a few different ways. I went to a very diverse and inclusive high school which was able to shape the way I viewed other people. Furthermore, I lived in New York City for four years which helped me embrace other cultures. While working in New York, I was influenced my many people in the office who had multicultural backgrounds. I learned about different diversities and how they can influence the organization.

Part 2: Being a great leader takes constant reflection. Personally, this is a trait that goes most unnoticed in leadership. I believe it’s important to reflect on how communication is within the organization as well as being nimble to adjusting aspects of communicating. Furthermore, effective communication with all groups is important to be considered a great leader. I have made some tough mistakes by not considering how I am communicating with internal team members. Recently, I hurt a colleague’s feelings by not communicating a business plan I was going after. I learned how people can be affected by my decisions even if they are well intentioned. Some of my strengths are determination, perseverance, and being personable. Some areas I could improve on taking a step back and looking at the big picture and slowing down. Often, I feel eager to complete a sale or task. I believe I am open minded to ideas and initiatives if they are communicated correctly. Being open minded is a necessary trait in leadership.

Part 3: I would like to see our community embrace honesty in leadership. Personally, I don’t believe there is a lot of trust with our government officials as well as the media. My sphere of influence is my direct sales leader and some internal business contacts I have come across in the last few years. I have the power to make my customers experiences better by understanding their needs. I can use my influence to create change by helping build team culture. Often, my team does not communicate regularly or in a positive light, so I am trying to change that. Part 4: My strengths in the practices of exemplary leadership are modeling the way, inspire a shared vision, and encourage the heart. I am a very vocal person and often offer help in different areas if needed. I try to encourage others to do their best and control what we can. I try to lift team members as well as leadership up and encourage their hard work. The areas I can improve are challenging the process and enable others to act. I can struggle with doing whatever is asked without challenging why I am doing it. Also, I feel uncomfortable on how someone performs their job. I tend to let the manager influence that individual then ste‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍pping on people’s toes.
