Science
and technology played an important role in shaping the cold war. The two
conflicting superpowers, the united states and the Soviet Union engaged in a
competition to show who has technological superiority in many fields. Two
significant fields where such superiority was sought most were in the space
race and spying on technology. However, the competition went in all scientific
fields including medicine and agriculture. Space technology and espionage
became quite important to the cold war as they touched specifically on some
factors that also relate to military superiority. For instance, espionage would
give a country power to intercept military confidential information of the other
country and thus use this information to their advantage.
