Expert Solution

Identify 5 personal objectives that I would like to accomplish for this practicum experience. These objectives should guide my practicum experience. They should be SMART-Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

1.    Patient perception: I will inquire about my patients' days and how they've progressed at the end of each shift to individualize their care better.

2.    Comprehensive assessment skills: Throughout my practicum, I will analyze the head-to-toe evaluations every day and pinpoint the components that are still missing. I will keep track of the information I forget and include it in a thorough examination each time I evaluate a new patient. When I only miss two parts of the evaluation, I will regard this goal as being met.

3.    Patient safety: During each bedside report, I will inspect all facets concerning my patient’s safety, including checking if they have an ID band, if the bed alarm is okay for fall-risk patients, if the medication is dripping at the right rate, and other aspects that impact my patient’s safety. This goal is attained if no safety events occur that I could have prevented at the end of my shift.

4.    Patient Care: I will provide high-quality, compassionate care to my patients by making them feel safe and comfortable during their hospital stay.

5.    Communication: When the patient and my coworkers communicate with me, I will listen intently and ask for clarification if I do not understand what they are saying. This will help me to become a better communicator. Once I have finished speaking with the patient or my colleagues, I will ask if they understood me. By doing this, I will have more experience communicating by the time the practicum is over.
