The prevalence of hate crimes in the USA has risen since the beginning of the Trumps administration. The enslavement of African Americans, persecution of Native Americans and the forced World War two relocations of Japanese Americans are the earliest examples of hate crimes perpetrated in the country. Despite the notable efforts by the government to curtail and eradicate the prevalence of hate crimes from society through passing laws such as the Hate Crimes Statistics of 1990 and the Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 among others, the prevalence of these crimes in the country is still on the rise. Mental health problems are among some of the consequences of the perpetration of these crimes. Therefore, this research will investigate the impact hate crimes have on the mental health of victims in communities afflicted by these crimes.
