Which
of the treatment interventions discussed in this module/week would you use on a
military client with PTSD, and why? Please select between one of the three
evidence based therapies that the Department of Veterans Affairs utilizes:
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement
Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Prolonged Exposure (PE). Support
your choice with material from your text and/or outside sources. The National
Center for PTSD is an excellent resource!
Although it was earlier named
combat fatigue, modern doctors recognize it as post-traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD). It can manifest after a traumatic event such as a natural disaster,
military war, or physical assault. People with this condition often feel
distant from family and friends, and besides stress, they relive the experience
in their minds. PTSD has significantly impacted numerous veterans, especially
those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Military sexual trauma can also
result in the condition. Due to the resilience it instills in the individual,
helping them cope with subsequent traumatic occurrences, I would employ
cognitive processing therapy (CPT) on a military patient with PTSD to assist
them in changing how they think about the trauma and its ramifications.
