There are many components of transition planning for students with disabilities. Parents, families and students need to work together alongside the school team to provide for optimal transition. There are many different options in The State of New York and it is important to review all of them prior to making an informed decision. After reviewing the three videos and reading the powerpoint presentation, please answer the following question.
1.What specific ideas from the videos and power point would be helpful to parents and families, include something that interested you specifically and state why? Are there any ideas that surprised you and why? 1.It was from the PowerPoint and
videos that I came to understand how scary transitions can be, and I realized
that as a college student, I follow routines. Having a routine and knowing what
to expect brings me comfort; on the other hand, everybody encounters numerous
transitions in life (NYSCQC, 2010c). Most young people generally find the
transition from high school to adulthood challenging. However, this challenge
becomes even more difficult for students living with a disability (Cattat,
2014). During this time of transition, society demands that all young people
acquire the necessary skills for maturing and developing a social identity,
while countless students with disabilities are dealing with disadvantages
(NYSCQC, 2010b). By recognizing these challenges, we can take the first step
towards ensuring a successful transition for students with disabilities;
however, the transition process doesn't solely begin at that point. A plan is
crucial for every process.
