Starrat’s
multidimensional model advocates for social justice in school leadership by
prioritizing equality among learners. Learning and teaching outcomes in schools
determine the nature of leadership because they are shaped by leaders.
Implementing Starrat’s multidimensional model entails key focus on upholding
social justice and equality among marginalized groups of learners. School
administrators are obliged to observe ethics of critique, justice and care in
their decision-making by measuring how their different groups of learners from
diverse backgrounds behave. In some instances, majority groups tend to be
advantaged than minorities hence, the different ideas concerning their
approaches to discipline (Cordeiro & Cunningham, 2013). The high rates of
suspension and expulsion of African American students from schools raised a
major concern among parents about the level of equality in the treatment of
learners in their various institutions. The zero tolerance policy is likely to
contribute to further school dropout rates if leaders fail to evaluate the
causes and impacts of indiscipline among students from diverse social
upbringing. Integrity, selflessness, accountability and objectivity are the
primary ethics that shape effective school leadership whereby, learners’
well-being and success are the primary guidelines in the regular
decision-making practices.
