Nadia's mother grew up in
Iran, devastated by war, and after her family moved to the united states, her
husband got imprisoned. Their environment was filled with fighting and chaos;
at one instance, their apartment got damaged by fire, although they struggled
to survive until their father was released. Nadia's father got killed in an
accident, and her mother got depressed and had to take medicine to function.
Thus, the catching fire of their apartment, her father's apparent death, and
traumatic experiences in Iran due to war and immigration harsh conditions have
contributed to the client's change in behavior. However, my reactions to the
case could be emphatic and stereotypical although I could manage them by
externalizing the client's problem and understanding the clients experiences
from an individual level and self care activities such as taking a break,
having social support, limiting time per session, and not taking responsibility
for the clients situations.
