In
2015, when the Sustainable Development Goals were established, no one could
have fully predicted the COVID-19 pandemic that emerged in 2020. The pandemic
makes us just that much more aware of how important it is to continue to work
toward goal attainment. Specifically linked to COVID-19 is Goal 3 Good Health
and Well Being, and Goal 10 Reduced Inequalities.
As the UN points
out on their Sustainable Goals website: “Using the latest data and estimates,
this annual stocktaking report on progress across the 17 Goals shows that it is
the poorest and most vulnerable – including children, older persons, persons
with disabilities, migrants and refugees – who are being the hardest hit by the
effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Women are also bearing the heaviest brunt of
the pandemic’s effects” (United Nations, 2020, Sustainable Development Goals
Report, para 4). Please review The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2020
(PDF, 16.9MB),
paying special attention to Goal 3: Good Health and
Well-Being (see pages 28-31 specifically). After reading through pages 28-31 of
the report, identify what you think is the most pressing issue noted as it
specifically relates to COVID-19 in the world today.
Explain why you
selected your identified issue. Next, using the integrated perspectives
approach outlined in Chapter 2 of the Cox and Pawar text, describe how each of
the four elements of the integrated perspectives approach can be used to guide
work to tackle Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being in light of the implications
of COVID-19. Remember: The global perspective represents the overall context;
The human rights perspective provides the value base; The ecological
perspective demonstrates the link between humanity and the natural environment;
The social development perspective guides action and a sense of direction. The
paper should be 1-2 pages and follow APA formatting. In-text citations and full
references should be provided.
