SafeAssign only Project for Learning This assignment (A1) has two components.
First, you need to develop a Project for Learning (PfL). Second, select and
apply a model that will help you to understand your project (in terms of
complexity).
COMPONENT
1: Development of PfL Step 1: Student needs to define one ‘case’ to develop
your PfL. There are two alternatives.
Alternative 1: You must use your own work
experience to develop a brief account of a project with which you are familiar.
You must select a particular experience in which you were either directly or
indirectly involved. This case has to be suitable for analysis using some
of the theories/concepts presented in this course. What is important is that
the student has at least some ‘insider’ information about the case to be able
to analyze PfL. Names of people and companies must remain anonymous. Students
must not use cases from textbooks or internet.
Alternative 2:
• Use the Dreamworld case (A copy of this case is available in the course
site. Go To Assessments (left side menu)/A1: Assessment 1). Note, students with
work experience must select alternative 1. Students with little or no work
experience must select alternative 2.
Step
2: You need to summarize your selected ‘case’ (Alternatives 1 or 2). Students
need to summarize their case in a 3-page summary. Please attach
this summary as an appendix of A1. Suggested structure: ? Describe the
main characteristics of the project in terms of people, technology, resources
and institutions involved. 2 ? What people expected from the project in terms
of cost, time and performance? ? What were the real outcomes? ? Was there too
much difference between the expected and real outcomes? ? Who initiated the
project, and why? ? Who were the main stakeholders of the project?
COMPONENT 2: Select and apply a model Step 3:
(i) Select one of the 3 models presented in this course: 8-features model, Cynefin model or Diamond model;
(ii) Explain/justify, using academic references and your PfL, why/how the selected model(s) will help you to analyse your PfL. A strong answer will include a justification of why the other two not selected models will not help much to analyse your Pfl. Step 4: Apply the selected model to your PfL. You need to retrospectively apply selected model in order to explain how selected model helps to understand your project, in terms of complexity. Step 5: Provide a reflexion about the strengths and weaknesses of the selected model. Specifications and Format

Summary
The Dreamworld
theme park, located on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, is known for
its various attractions such as wildlife and rides such as the Thunder River Rapids Ride.
However, the specific project has faced various challenges, including the
infamous accident that killed two men and women on the ride with two of their
children. The accident has undergone various investigations of the various
causes leading to the failure of the ride project. Although the Queensland
Police Service deduced that there were no criminal actions, primarily of
negligence, the theme park has faced massive controversy after the event. As a
result, the specific project was called off, and later on, the theme park
patron company was fined for breaching the safety protocols. In this case, an
analysis of the project and the failure that led to the deaths is vital.
However, the case is represented with various complex elements considering the
large extent of the whole theme. Therefore, the 8-feature model is used to
break down the various features of the project while defining the complications
that led to the project's eventual failure, especially for the specific water
ride. The 8-feature framework is chosen from the Cynefin framework and the
diamond model due to its ability to analyze the complexity of organizational
structures and core elements. The 8-features of projects include the major
categories between elements such as novelty, pace, controversy, and project
core principles. Thus, this paper looks to determine the various elements of
the Dreamworld project and the TRR (Thunder River Rapids) ride which influenced
the project's eventual downfall. This investigation is primarily at the
organization level by determining the various management issues. Finally, the
model provides some of the improvements that can be made using mature novelties
that will change the organizational structure and techniques in ensuring the
safety of the park's themes. Therefore, the 8-feature model is essential in
understanding the Dreamworld and TRR ride project and the reasons for its
eventual closure.
