During
the course of the subject, students are expected to interact with each other in
the discussion forums of the subject's Moodle site. Based on this weekly
interaction (i.e., postings and responses to classmates' postings), write - in
first personal singular - an 800 word reflection about what you learned in
regards to key principles of teaching English in international contexts and the
changing role and nature of World Englishes. In an appendix include four of
your forum postings to support your reflection/discussion, to provide evidence
of your participation, and to show how your forum posts and interaction
facilitated your learning process and understanding of key issues in teaching
English in international contexts, especially your chosen context. Also,
include in the discussion/reflection two pieces of advice that you would give a
second language instructor teaching English in your chosen country (i.e., the
context in which you situated assessment tasks 1 and 2). Discuss the two pieces
of advice in light of professional development in which a prospective teacher
should engage in order to teach English effectively in your chosen
country/context.
Note:
•This task requires you to revisit the discussion forums of all of the topics and to analyze your contributions as well as your classmates' postings and responses;
•Engagement with other
students in the forums is an essential aspect of this assessment task;
•The appendix and the
reference list are not part of the 800 words
As an English language
educator operating within a global setting, I have acquired significant
perspectives regarding the fundamental tenets of English language pedagogy and
have observed the evolving nature and role of World Englishes. The insights
provided by the program on engaging in interactive and collaborative learning approaches
have enhanced my comprehension of efficacious teaching and coping methodologies.
Therefore, a reflective account of the lessons learned in the program will
enable me to offer two crucial recommendations for EIL instructors teaching in
Japan.
