Discussion Forum ( main Question )
Week One
Consider the case studies from APM Heathrow Baggage Handling Project and the International Relief and Development Project of the Year 2011 from the APM – World Wide Fund for Nature RUMAKI Seascape Project.Considering the principles and objectives of these projects along with their likely context, compare and contrast the planning methods and approaches which you would recommend for both. Within this you could consider the project lifecycles, goal and solution visibility and the likely subsequent planning processes to be used along with who should be involved, how, when and why and ensuring that you provide justification with respect to the literature
Evaluate for
the same projects the choice of planning tools likely to be applied including
whether there is a role for project management software (of various types),
where and why.
In week one this is what I Wrote:Project planning has been perceived as the foundation of the project’s lifecycle as it addresses the procedure to complete a project in a particular timeframe and often defines stages and designated resources (Wysocki, 2020, p.5). The project planning in both the APM Heathrow Baggage Handling Project and the International Relief and Development Project of the Year 2011 from the APM – World Wide Fund for Nature RUMAKI Seascape Project was crucial for attaining their objective. The main objective of the APM Heathrow Baggage Handling Project was to set up a sustainable baggage handling system that would help the airport to cope with some 110 million bags a year. Here, the main project was to build a dedicated system for Terminal three (T3) and integrate it with Terminal five (T5). In this case, IT would be the ‘brain’ behind the T3 integrated baggage system. In order to achieve its objective, the project management would focus on the stakeholders to be involved and the operations required for an innovative approach. Here, the project should have embraced the scrum project management method (Conforto and Amaral, 2010, p.76). Since the terminals (T3 and T5) would be in operation, it would be recommended to split the project into short cycles, which would last for a period of time. This would also ensure that all the stakeholders are engaged from the start to the end.The International Relief and Development Project of the Year 2011 from the APM (World Wide Fund for Nature RUMAKI Seascape Project), on the other hand, aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the coastal communities in Rufiji, Mafia, and Kilwa. Since this project’s achievement was based on collaboration with the local communities, the most appropriate project planning method would be the agile approach. According to Rasnacis and Berzisa (2017, p.47), the agile project management approach assists in dealing with limitations that curtain the project from adapting to the condition as it progresses. This approach would ensure that coastal communities are involved throughout the project lifecycle and putting decision-making and revenue-collection into local hands and giving societies the incentive to manage fishing operations for long-term sustainable productivity.
Question
What
are the reasons why various projects and in particular those under IT supposed
to adopt any of the project management approaches ? what are the impacts of
various project management approaches towards the organization success in any
given project?

Now we are in Week 2 : please write a post to Evaluate for the same projects the choice of planning tools likely to be applied including whether there is a role for project management software (of various types), where and why.
· Your initial posting should respond to the question and be at least 200 - 300 words long.
·not less than 2 - 3 References (Harvard Style).
· Add a question at the end so other participants can continue the
discussion forum.
Project management
strategies continually evolve and adapt to new industry demands and practices
in today's fast-changing world. As such, planning tools such as project
management software like nTask are to be applied to enhance project success in
both the Baggage handling project and the World Wide Fund Project (Radujković
and Sjekavica, 2017). For instance, the primary goal of both project planning
endeavors was to develop approaches to practice and analysis of project
management planning, reporting, and resource allocation to the sustainable
baggage handling system. In the case of the Heathrow Baggage Handling project,
this would assist the airport in managing the transit of bags and how luggage
is handled (Davies et al., 2016). Given an agile project management approach,
critical path diagrams will be used to connect different activities and display
the precedence of task allocation (Trojanowska & Dostatni, 2017). This will
assist in the breakdown of tasks into smaller tasks to increase value delivery.
Additionally, as part of planning, schedule activities for team members using
the applications folders, calendars, workflows, and templates. Additionally,
comments will be posted when queries are raised with the allocation of tasks.
Project tools are, therefore, an essential component of a project's basic
structure since everyone who uses them anticipates much better project
performance.
In the case of the
International Relief and Development Project, the collaboration with local
communities necessitated the use of an agile approach, specifically a Scrum.
This will encompass the division of duties guaranteeing that all parties are
involved from beginning to end. However, mobilizing the whole community without
broken-down tasks might seem strenuous (APM, 2011). The Gantt chart will
visualize the project timeline and the dependencies between work items, such as
resources and the entities involved (Trojanowska & Dostatni, 2017).
Incorporating the chart will affirm the data produced by the nTask software
better define project risks, goals, and interventions required (Aslam and Ijaz,
2018). Together, these strategies ensure that every area of the process runs
well and that all parties are conscious of every work that has been completed
or has to be done (Radujković and Sjekavica, 2017). In this regard, adopting
integrated techniques simplifies keeping track of duties and ensuring
everything is within line.
Question
Why are the various
approaches and tools of project management required in ensuring success in any
project setting? What are the implications of not following the required tools
when developing a project?
