Topic: Levels of Planning
-Define all three levels of planning and determine their usefulness in educational planning and management
-Mega Planning
-Macro Planning
-Micro Planning
Site a local example of an
instance for which planning will be necessary and outline the interrelatedness
of the activities from the levels of the Mega to micro.
Planning
is the core for any organization to succeed. Managers need to plan adequately
to attain their long-term and short-term goals and manage the various
resources, including financial and human resources, to meet the target market's
needs. In education, planning and management are critical in enhancing success
by highlighting the educational constraints, issues, and factors likely to
influence the achievement of the goals and vision of the institution. The
micro, mega, and macro levels of planning could be useful in enhancing
educational success.
The
mega level entails strategically aligning the organization's operations toward
attaining the ideal vision. It is a long-term, persistent process aiming at
sustainability by developing proactive strategies to thrive in the highly
fluctuating market, environmental and social world (Cascio, 2019). Therefore,
an organization could use mega planning to thrive in the unpredictable market
world and enhance employee enthusiasm and loyalty, establish a culture of
commitment and trust, and healthy interactions with clients and other
stakeholders.
On the
other hand, macro-level planning helps establish a clear path to achieving the
organization's goals. It could incorporate trends in the gross domestic product
(GDP), fiscal and monetary policy, spending, or inflation to help align the
businesses and plan on how to thrive (Cascio, 2019). It involves specifying
trading strategy and adaptation techniques to the changing market needs and
conditions to remain relevant (Cascio, 2019). It could also involve
intervention in social work, which could directly or indirectly affect the
entire community or state as it focuses on large-scale processes. Thus, the
macro level mainly entails large-scale business planning to establish a clear
path to attain the organization's objectives.
In
contrast, micro-level planning involves aligning the day-to-day business
operations with the macro and mega levels to attain long-term organizational
goals. The micro level focuses on managing human and financial resources and
involves the motivation and commitment to enhance the organization's operations
to satisfy customer needs and build capacities (Cascio, 2019). It involves
clearly defining the responsibilities and roles of the various stakeholders to
meet the expected performance and returns. Therefore, to attain the mega-level
plans, the organization should integrate the macro and micro levels to define
its objectives and manage individuals and teams to commit to attaining its
ideal vision (Cascio, 2019). Thus micro-level planning focuses on aligning the
daily operations with the mega and macro-planning objectives.
The
three levels of planning play a critical role in educational planning and
management to help attain the school's target performance by coordinating the
stakeholders to commit to attaining the goal. For instance, mega-planning could
be used to define the long-term goal and vision of the school (Cascio, 2019).
In contrast, macro planning establishes the objectives and strategic criterion
for thriving in highly changing employee, parent, and student needs. In
contrast, the micro level could be useful in enhancing teachers, parents, and
students' commitment to creating healthy interactions and enhancing performance
(Cascio, 2019). Therefore, micro, micro, and mega planning are interrelated and
depend on each other to attain the overall goal.
The mega, micro, and macro levels of planning are the main strategies applied by organizations to enhance success. The mega level entails strategically aligning the organization's operations toward attaining the ideal vision. Macro-level planning helps establish a clear path to achieving the organization's goals. In contrast, micro-level planning involves aligning the day-to-day business operations.
