The Florida State Board of
Education passed House Bills 7 and 1557 on the 19th and 20th of October
regarding the rights of parents in education and individual autonomy. However,
developing a training guide for teachers and parents on implementing the two
bills is crucial to enhance the outcome. In training teachers and parents, HB
1557 and 7 details of the meeting will be utilized. Emphasis will be on the
need to engage parents in discussing students' issues, allow them to make
decisions regarding their children's health, provide needed learning materials,
and warn the teachers about engaging in talks relating to gender identity and
sexual orientation for students below grade 3 (Solodev, 2022). Also, the
training will highlight the meaning of individual freedom and caution teachers
and parents on the HB 7 prohibition of talks that result in sex, gender, and
racial discrimination in schools.
